Title: Living With Complexity
Authors: Donald A. Norman
Summary:
In this book the author talks about how complexity affects our lives. The beginning chapters discuss the fact that complexity is not always the product of bad design choices, but is sometimes necessary because life is simply complex. The author also discusses how complexity is relative. In other words, sometimes things are complex to one person but completely simple to another. The author goes on to discuss how simplicity does not necessarily stop confusion and how even simple things can cause problems if they do not adhere to some sort of rules. He finishes by describing how with simplicity and rule following, things do not need to be so confusing.
Discussion:
I thought this was an interesting read. I completely agree that while everyone wants things to be simple, there are some things in which complexity is a necessity. I also like how the author made a differentiation between complex and confusing. The discussions on how simplicity can just as easily be confusing were also enjoyable.
