Reference Information:
Title: CheekTouch: An Affective Interaction Technique while Speaking on the Mobile Phone
Authors: Young-Woo Park, Chang-Young Lim. Tek-Jin Nam
Venue: CHI 2010

Summary:
The authors of this paper describe a means of making mobile phone communications more interactive. They present CheekTouch, a system which allows users to interact with those on the other end of the phone through tactile feedback on the phone. The authors were able to mimic several feelings such as pinching, stroking, patting, slapping, kissing and tickling. Users of this system responded positively and noted that the phone succeeded in conveying emotions through the phone.

Discussion:
This is an amazing new technology. I believe that systems like these are getting us one step closer to communicating through holograms like I always wanted to. It would be interesting to have people design there own patterns with different feedback. One drawback to the system that I do see is that I would not like to be able to be slapped while on the phone.
