Reference Information:
Title: The Reactable: Tangible and Tabletop Music Performance
Authors: Sergi Jordà
Venue: CHI 2010

Summary:
In this paper the authors describe the Reactable, a system for controlling music through the use of tangibles on an interactive surface. By using the tangibles, several users can edit music at once. The system allows users to perform tasks such as synthesizing. The author has had the system used in a variety of concerts and claims that it is well on its way to becoming a recognized musical instrument.

Discussion:
I found this paper very interesting. The fact that they are trying to make this system its own musical instrument and that it has already been used in concerts is very promising. I wish that I was able to hear the music that this instrument is capable of making. I am unaware if any other instrument has multiple people performing on it at once, but this seems like it could possibly be the first of its kind.
