Ethnography Results: Week 7

This week I had an incredibly odd experience in an elevator. While me and my roommate were leaving our apartment, we came upon three people sitting on blankets in an elevator and reading books. We said nothing but then they started talking to us and asking what we were doing. Eventually we politely asked what they were doing and they responded that they were "discussing the idols that are currently replacing the lord." Needless to say I was thoroughly confused with what was happening and was hoping to get out of the elevator before something terrible happened. It wasn't until later that I discovered how ingenious what they were doing was. When people are handing out fliers of preaching something in the streets I would imagine that a large amount of people simply ignore them and walk away. In an elevator you have no choice but to confront the person talking to you. The only other option is to be completely rude and pretend they don't exist until you hit the next stop. Therefore by preaching in an elevator you have essentially forced that person to interact with you, or at the very least hear the words coming out of your mouth until they reach their stop.
