Ethnography Results: Week 6
This week was spring break so I didn't spend as much time in an elevator as I usually did. I did however get one very exciting experience in an elevator in Dallas. The elevator had a see through glass wall and was in a very tall building. I therefore made a keen observation, people tended to either get as close to the glass as possible or as far away from it as they could. It seemed that people were either fascinated to look outside from that height or they were afraid of falling and therefore stuck to the door. There were not many people who stayed in the middle region of the elevator. Additionally, because many of the people on certain floors of this building knew each other, they were much more courteous and willing to wait longer to hold the door for someone quite far from the elevator. It is interesting to see that even an elevator (which is really just a closet to move people in) can be designed in a way that solicits different reactions from people.
